Is the Gizmodo iPhone HD scoop a fake?

Talking with a friend about the new iPhone HD revelations by Gizmodo, we noticed how the logo on the letter Apple sent them to repossess the iPhone prototype wasn’t their latest version. Not only the logo, but on the bottom right the font used is the condensed Garamond that Apple used to use years ago. This is exactly Apple’s stationery circa 2005. Here’s a comparison between Gizmodo’s letter and others Apple sent to other individuals. Let’s see if you can spot the differences.

Gizmodo’s letter:

Comparison n.1:

Comparison n.2:

What can we deduct from these images? We have 3 possible scenarios:
1) Gizmodo got seriously punk’d
2) Gizmodo really received the mail but they were too lazy to scan it so they just recreate one themselves
3) Somebody at Apple should update Mr. Sewell’s stationery

What do you think about this story?

This is getting crazy.. every few hours it’s like a mini saga of nes scoops here and there. You have an eye for details i have to admit but still, let’s wait for Apple to user their army of lawyers. You read that engadget was advised by their legal team not to buy the iPhone?

Yeah, I don’t know, this could be just some old stationery he still had in his office…
Gizmodo took a risk, we’ll find out soon if Apple will response. For sure I wouldn’t have exposed that poor guy who lost it.

Nitpick: the old font isn’t Bodoni, it’s condensed Garamond.

      Yup, you are right. Fixed.

      Thanks.

Was this letter sent in a PDF via email? Or is gizmodo’s letter supposedly scanned?

Draw a perfectly vertical line in photoshop and line it up with the left margin. It’s *perfectly* aligned, up to the pixel, so its probably not scanned in. (it might say that somewhere in gizmodo… I didn’t bother looking)

      (nevermind.. lol)

All you have to do is read the letter and see that it says that it was sent via email.

      • http://www.davidedicillo.com Davide

That just means that they sent the same letter via email as well.
